Atlantic Retail and Petco have teamed up for more than 25 years.

History

In 1990, Atlantic Retail Properties initiated a relationship with Pet Supply Depot, a Massachusetts based retailer of pet supplies. Seven years later, San Diego, CA based Petco, a leader in the pet supply category, entered New England with the acquisition of Pet Supply Depot. Along with that market entry came the start of a long term relationship with Atlantic Retail that continues today through numerous changes in personnel, geographic penetration and real estate strategy.

Today, Atlantic Retail Properties works on Petco’s behalf along much of the eastern seaboard including all of New England, upstate New York, eastern Pennsylvania, the Carolinas, Florida and Georgia.

To date, Atlantic Retail has completed over 150 deals with Petco.

Strategy

While the track record of store openings is a visible reminder of the tie between the companies, the relationship is rooted in the work Atlantic performs for Petco out of the spotlight. Atlantic teams in four offices assist Petco in understanding the appropriate strategic approach to new and existing markets, the evaluation of competition and the track record of other retailers within the targeted communities.

Direct and open dialogue between the Petco real estate team and the Atlantic research and marketing department has become a valuable component of the decision-making process as the Petco executives can use these additional research tools to form strategy.

As Petco’s strategic objectives evolve, Atlantic remains a dependable, loyal companion continually assessing opportunities to strengthen the company’s portfolio.
